I'm a fashion fan & won Best Headpiece wearing DIY lamp shade fascinator on day one of Galway Race Week
A WOMAN rocking a fascinator made from a lamp shade scooped the Best Headpiece prize on day one of Galway Race Week.
Savannah Bergin stole the show with a gorgeous pink and white fascinator that she made at the kitchen table.
The Galway model decided to make her own head attire for the Connacht Hotel Racing for Rosabel Best Dressed.
Judges Fiona Morgan Coleman and Gillian Duggan gave out prizes worth over €6,000 to the most stylish ladies and gents.
Savannah told MC Tracy Piggot that her headpiece was made from a lamp shade in her bedroom.
Savannah told the Irish Sun that she's "absolutely thrilled" with her win.
She said: "I took inspiration for creating the hat from the unique colours of the Canella Lane dress.
"I hand made the headpiece over two late nights before the Rosabel Rooms event using materials from home, a lampshade for the base, doll outfits from when I was a kid, earrings and jewellery, and hand painted the details in the hat.
"Me and my mom used to get creative and enter mad hatters day every year at the Galway races when I was a child.
"So it was an absolute thrill to be chosen as a winner especially having hand making it."
The Best Headpiece prize was sponsored by Bellissimo Galway.
Michelle Lally, from Ballinasloe, living in Galway was crowned Best Dressed Lady.
Michelle told us: "I got my dress from The Stables in Birr, where I work.
"I went to Majella Lennon at Crevation Design to make a black hat that would compliment the dress and I told her my vision was Joan Collins in Dynasty.
"She made the perfect hat for me. The earrings, I bought from Penneys years ago and they matched the dress perfectly.
"My bag was Yves Saint Laurent and shoes I bought years ago in Debenhams."
The fashionista said the most important thing is to be "comfortable in what you are wearing".
She said: "I look forward to the Galway Races every year.
"The planning of outfits, the meeting up with friends and the atmosphere is always electric, whatever the weather.
"Galway isn’t just a city, it’s a way of life.”
Her beautiful monochrome ensemble bagged her an amazing €1,700 worth of vouchers from Eyre Square Shopping Centre in Galway.
Cormac Clery won Best Dressed Gent wearing a salmon colour jacket with a white and navy trimmed shirt – scooping a fabulous holiday from The Travel Suite.
Tracy Piggott along with top jockey Robbie Power and Gary Monroe gave guests all the best tips for the race week ahead.
